Principal's Corner

Dear Cedar Heights Families,

Welcome to the 2026–27 school year! I hope your summer has been filled with time to relax, reconnect, and enjoy the people and activities that matter most to your family. We are excited to welcome our students back to Cedar Heights Middle School and begin another year of learning, growth, and connection.

As I begin my first year as principal of Cedar Heights, one thing has been especially clear to me: we have an exceptional staff who care deeply about students and believe in their potential. Our teachers, counselors, support staff, and administrators are ready to welcome your student, build relationships with them, challenge them to grow, and provide support when they need it. We know that middle school is an important time in a student's life, and we are committed to making Cedar Heights a place where every student feels known, supported, and capable of success.

Our theme this year is Progress Over Perfection. We chose these words because learning is a journey. Students do not need to be perfect; they need opportunities to learn, make mistakes, receive support, and keep moving forward. The same is true for us as adults and as a school community.

What will we focus on this year?

Our school improvement plan is centered on a simple belief: every student can learn at high levels when we provide strong instruction, helpful feedback, and support when it is needed. This year, we are putting particular attention on three things:

Students will receive more timely and helpful feedback.
We want students to know what they are learning, how they are doing, and what they can do next. Our goal is not simply to give students a score or grade, but to provide information that helps them improve while there is still time to act on it.

Students will have additional opportunities to get the help they need.
We are creating two intervention times during the school day. These times will allow us to respond more quickly when a student needs additional support with learning, while also providing opportunities for students who are ready to extend their learning. Rather than waiting until a student falls significantly behind, we want to identify needs early and respond.

We will continue building a positive and supportive learning environment.
We know that students learn best when they feel safe, connected, and supported. We will continue to teach and reinforce the behaviors and habits that help students be successful learners and members of our school community.

Our work this year is not about adding more to students' plates or asking teachers to do everything differently. It is about becoming more intentional and consistent with the things that make the greatest difference for students. We will use information about student learning to make decisions, adjust our instruction, and provide additional support when needed.

Most importantly, we want our students to know that we believe in them.

We are excited to partner with you this year. Please reach out when you have questions, concerns, or celebrations to share. Strong schools are built through strong partnerships between students, families, and staff, and we are grateful to have you as part of the Cedar Heights community.
