November Already?

It is hard to believe we are finishing our ninth week of the school year. Time is a funny thing. Sometimes it feels like it is moving fast, sometimes slow, and occasionally both at the same time. As each year seems to move at an increasingly faster pace, I try to remind myself to slow down, look around, and appreciate what is happening across the South Kitsap School District.

And what I am seeing makes me smile.

Our staff is working incredibly hard to make this the best school year yet. As I visit schools, I see students learning, staff bringing energy and enthusiasm to their work, and people showing genuine love and care for those around them. I see people throughout our district showing up each day, doing their best, and providing the support and services that keep our schools moving forward. So much of this work happens behind the scenes, but it makes a difference every single day.

There is something about October in education. The excitement and energy of a new school year begin to settle into the daily routines, and the demands of the work can start to take their toll. Energy levels dip, patience can run a little thin, and the days sometimes feel longer than they did in September.

And yet, even as we work through those moments, I continue to be inspired by the passion, commitment, and heart that the people of South Kitsap bring to their work.

We aren't perfect. We make mistakes. We have days when things don't go as planned. But what I appreciate most is that we keep showing up, keep caring, and keep working to get better every day. We do that because we believe in what we are doing, we believe in one another, and most importantly, we believe in the students and families we serve.

As we turn the calendar to November, I hope we all take a moment to look around and appreciate the good things happening in our schools. There is a lot to be proud of in South Kitsap, and at the heart of it all are the people who make this such a special place.

Election Day is Almost Here

We are just days away from Election Day on November 3, and I want to thank our South Kitsap community for taking the time to learn about the Capital Projects Levy and what it could mean for our schools. Taking care of what we have today is an important part of planning for our students and our district’s future.

The videos below offer a closer look at the proposed projects, including safety and security updates, learning technology upgrades, and improvements to our existing school facilities.

If you haven’t already, please take a few minutes to learn more, make your voice heard, and remember to vote by November 3. Thank you for being part of our South Kitsap community!

Celebrating Disability Awareness Month

One of the things that makes South Kitsap special is the way our students, families, and staff show up for one another. This Disability Awareness Month, we celebrate our students with disabilities, their many strengths and accomplishments, and the families who walk alongside them every day. We are proud of these students and grateful to be part of their journey. From the IDEA Project at Manchester and East Port Orchard Elementary to our new Special Services PTSA group, Community Transition Program, and Unified Athletics, we are creating opportunities for all students to connect, grow, and feel a true sense of belonging.

While October gives us a special opportunity to recognize disability awareness, celebrating and supporting our students is something we are committed to every day.
